Company Mission:

Vivo Biosciences Inc. (VBI), an emerging biotech company founded in 2004, is developing new ‘all-human’ bioassay platforms for preclinical research, drug discovery and therapeutics. The company relies on its patented HuBiogel™ technology which emulates the biology of normal and disease tissues in vitro. A series of 3-D or Mini-tumor bioassay systems are developed for rapid analysis of drug efficacy, toxicity and therapy prediction, the major bottlenecks of current DD pipeline. This high-value technology is offered worldwide to academic, private and government institutions.



VBI Management and Board of Directors:

Raj Singh, PhD, President and CSO: Dr. Singh is the founder of VBI and the principal developer of HuBiogel technology. He has established the proprietary protocols for HuBiogel production and bioassay systems. He has validated the tumorigenesis and angiogenesis assay models and created new 3D tissue-like functional models for drug discovery and therapeutic research. He has received multiple top-scored SBIR grants and contracts. With more than 50 publications including a recent book chapter, he also has several technology patents pending.
Lee T Martin, PhD: Senior Director, Business Development joined VBI in January 2009.  With PhD degree in Pharmacology, Dr. Martin has about 10 years of experience in corporate & business development including life sciences licensing work for Idenix Pharma, MSM Protein Tech, Charles River Labs and The UAB Res. Foundation.  
Lawrence DeLucas, PhD, OD, DSc (hon): Professor and Director of Center for Biophysical Sciences & Engineering at UAB, is a founding member of VBI Board of Directors. He also directs NASA-UAB research center and well known for his space flight mission in 1991. As a distinguished scientist, he serves as member of multiple biotechnology boards.
Albert LoBuglio, MD: Emeritus Professor and Director of nation’s top Comprehensive Cancer Centers at UAB. He is an expert in oncology, chemotherapy and clinical research for past 22 years. He has won many prestigious awards and published extensively in cancer research area.
Larry Greer, DDS, MBA: Senior Managing Partner and founder of Greer Capital Advisors. Dr. Greer has directed the S.C.O.U.T. Healthcare Fund as its General Partner. He is directly involved with management, operational oversight, strategic planning, capitalization events and industry negotiations. Three portfolio companies completed initial public offerings and three were successfully acquired. Dr. Greer serves on the Boards of many of the Fund’s portfolio companies and several start-up tech transfer companies.
Alan Dean, BS, MBA: Managing Partner, Fund Operations of Greer Capital Advisors. Prior to joining GCA, he was Director of Office of Technology Transfer at University of Texas in San Antonio and Southern Research Institute in Birmingham. One of the lucrative financial deals involved new generation of stents and implants with Johnson & Johnson. He co-founded Southern BioSystems, Inc., now acquired by a public company. Mr. Dean sits on the board of several GCA portfolio companies.


Scientific Advisors and Consultants:
  Mina Bissell, PhD: Distinguished Scientist, Life Sciences, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (CA) is one of the most respected cell biologists in the world. She has received numerous honors and awards, including the E.O. Lawrence Award (1996) and election to the Presidency of the American Society of Cell Biology and Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences (1997). In addition, she has given more than 30 distinguished lectures and keynotes.
Norton P. Peet, PhD: Director of Chemistry at Microbiotix, Inc is an international R&D consultant to the Biotech and pharmaceutical industry. He has served as President/CEO of Aurigene Discovery technologies and as VP at ArQule, and directed medicinal chemistry programs at Aventis, Hoechst Marion Roussel Inc, and Merrell Dow for many years.
Ms. Linda Powers: Managing Director of Toucan Capital, USA. Ms. Powers has multiyear experience in VC investing, corporate finance, joint ventures and IP licensing. She has been appointed to Governors' commissions to serve on the board of state-run investment fund . She also served on the steering committee of the NAS, US-NIST program and on the boards of directors of several biotech companies.
